My October In-Running Trading Update.

Going to try something a little different this month by doing a lot of the update via video!

The daily update (which I write each day immediately after trading) is here the same as usual but at the bottom of the post instead of me writing my summary and thoughts I’ve posted a video.

Headline figures:
Fourth Consecutive winning month and my best month since I started trading.

Monthly Trading Figures Oct 2020

Was really tired after a late night and missed an easy trade as I was half asleep on the second race I watched. Got one on the third race (Tide Times. Warwick 12.40) and was happy to switch off. It was a higher price (av 8.93) than I normally lay at but clicked it 3 times so won £7.25 on it.

Good day I had a Zoom chat in the morning with someone who was interested to join B4P. I always enjoy talking to other traders.

Traded a couple of races on Sky Video pictures and they seemed slightly better than normal.

Managed to get two small greens and a scratch so called it a day. I’m taking the day off tomorrow.

Number of Races 5

Traded 3, 0 losses, 1 scratch, 2 wins, Biggest loss N/A, biggest win £5.53

Well today was supposed to be a day off and in fairness it sort of was really. I was out early in the morning and didn’t get home till about 1.30pm. I had a nice relaxing afternoon watching TV and I did a few jobs around the house.

Later at about 6.00pm I switched my PC on to do some work emails and stuff. At about 6.40pm I checked the B4P Telegram room to see what I’d missed today and there were several members trading evening races at Wolverhampton.

Without giving too much away there are certain races/situations at Wolves that can offer a good trade and a potential one was being talked about in the room on the up and coming 7.00pm.

So I switched on Bet Angel to have a look and the scenario I was hoping would happen did.

Odds on Fav (Thowq) badly out of the stalls and I was in and out in a heartbeat. I still class this as a day off and I’ve decided to treat myself to an Indian takeaway. Winner, winner chicken Balti dinner!

Number of Races 1

Not sure it was discipline I feel I was guilty of overconfidence if anything but did a bad trade for my first red of the month. Took a red of just under 50% liability when laying the odds-on fav. It didn’t go on to win but looked like it was going to soon after I’d laid it. Andrew doesn’t trade Sundays but watched the replay and gave me a bollocking. He said there was no point when it should have been an entry. His exact words were “It was a shit trade, it was cantering the whole way round”.

The annoying thing is I could’ve switched off after the first 2 trades and won £18.58 for the day. Not sure why I didn’t as I normally do these days, but I suspect it was a touch of greed.

The only real positive of the day was a good B2L I did on “Let Me Pass” in the 13.55 at Killarney. My default IR strategy is L2B but I’d like to get better at B2L.

To improve that side of my trading I’ve started watching all the B2L videos in the B4P training again. When I joined B4P I only had a quick look at them but just the last few days I’ve been watching 3 or 4 every day. “Let Me Pass” looked a really easy one to me. I entered at 2.40 and was out at 1.81.

Because of my lack of experience of B2L I don’t have my servants set to 5% of bank like I do with L2B, I just back them for a fixed £25.

Terrible first race for me. Mind still a bit scrambled from yesterday’s malarkey and traded the first race about as bad as I could have.

The horse didn’t win but I manged to enter a Lay trade at the worst (highest) price it traded at during the entire race. Traded out for a red when it started to improve a bit. Lack of confidence was the main reason for hesitating when I should have entered decisively earlier than I did.

Anyway traded a bit better thereafter and hopefully from tomorrow I can get back to just doing one or two nice easy ones and leaving all the rest. This, making things harder for myself, must stop.

As my stakes/confidence are slowly increasing I’m starting to win a bit more. Just one trade today but my biggest since I joined B4P.

I got a bit annoyed with myself today. Had difficulty not entering when it wasn’t a really obvious, simple, safe trade. That poor discipline meant I’d traded 4 races before that obvious/simple/safe trade came along.

Anyway, got there in the end.

A measure of how much I’ve improved I suppose when I look at an £11 green day and I’m disappointed. Traded fine it was just that there were no obvious/easy trades at any decent prices during any of the races that matched my selection criteria.

One good proper IR trade and one bit of Pre-race. Not a proper pre-race trade but “Rocky Court” in the 15.25 at Downpatrick is a serial “F about down at the start merchant”. He really looked like he didn’t want to go so Laid it Pre-Race and made a couple of quid on it.

My first “Miss-Click” for a long time. Was watching Fav and switched my thoughts back and forth early in the race between L2B and B2L and when I saw what looked like a good B2L trade on it clicked the button. Sadly I’d got the mouse over the L2B button.

Worse things happen though!

Good days racing for me. 3 good jumps meeting and I didn’t want to stop trading, but I know the rules now!

Steady 3 out of 3 and done for the day. Needed to finish early anyway as I’ve run out of milk!

Itzy bitzy sort of day had a couple of trades I ducked out of for tiny greens the reason being as President Trumps doctors would say “due to an abundance of caution.” But if I’m honest I was trying to get in too early too often and was over trading.

Only two of the trades I did were trades I should even have done. Anyway, must do better tomorrow.

One of my most disciplined days ever. The first race I watched was at 13.10 and the last was 17.30 and in all that time I traded just 4 races and in one of those I scratched my trade for a 52p green. After a sizeable red I wanted to get a decent trade in, to finish in the green, if possible but to do that without taking risks does test your mental strength.

Number of Races ? Not sure loads though

I would normally have had the day off today as it’s a Saturday, but my daughter is home and I like to give her the freedom to watch what she wants on TV. So, I thought I’d trade for a couple of hours.

Glad I did, a very good day.

Worst trade I’ve done for a long time today. My exit wasn’t great but worse still was the fact that I didn’t immediately exit when I realised it. Every second I left it cost me more money.

One of the biggest improvements I’ve made in the last three months is that I instantly exit when something starts to look bad, but I didn’t this time. “Hoping it will go my way” is never a good strategy.

I’m only supposed to do 4 trades but as the first one was a virtual scratch; I didn’t count it!

Steady day but a bit annoyed I was too hesitant on what could have been a big trade. I traded 4 races which is on the high side but with 4 jumps meetings and 3 of them on RTV I wanted to take advantage if possible.

Was wanting to have the day off as I had plans, but the terrible weather put paid to them. So, decided to trade.

After my first trade I got a phone call to be informed by my daughter that she had made new plans for me!

I’ve looked at the racing tomorrow and Monday and have now decided to move my “Day off” to Monday.

5 meetings over fences today and four on RTV so I was confident there would be some safe trades available.

Found two quite early and decided to call it a day. I’ve had days recently when I’ve been trading more than 4 races, so I wanted to bring my average back down a bit.

Looked a really bad day’s racing for me. Only one meeting on RTV and it was a flat meeting at Catterick. I was fortunate to get a nice easy trade on “Bolder Bob” in the 13.40 at Catt.

After that trade greened up I instantly switched BA off and called it a day. There will be better days than this in the coming weeks of the jumps season. Much better to keep my bank and sanity intact.

These are the days where a year or so ago where I’d have been risking a huge red day by trading when I shouldn’t be.

At the start of the day I was about £16 short of the £400 mark for the month and try as I might to put those thoughts out of my mind it is virtually impossible.

Fortunately, while I was watching the races, I didn’t let that fact influence my decisions.

I got a good one today to hit the £400 mark and it also took my bank past £1,600. Well chuffed to switch off and bank the green day.

Number of Races 3

Traded 1, 0 losses, 1 win, Biggest loss N/A, biggest win £17.85

Daily Total Plus £17.85

Nice quick and easy day. Dipped my toe in the first race I watched but “due to an abundance of caution” I traded out for a small green.

The second race I watched offered an opportunity when the Fav “Apple Rock” ran poorly.

Number of Races 2

Traded 2, 0 losses, 2 wins, Biggest loss N/A, biggest win £19.56
